For current and former lab employees

You know things the public doesn't. Here's how to write for us or support this work.

This publication is built by and for people who have worked inside AI labs. If you are a current or former employee, contractor, or researcher at a frontier AI company, we’d like to hear from you.

Ways to get involved

Write for us

We publish opinion pieces and first-hand perspectives from people with inside experience, under your name or anonymously. We’re interested in anything the public has a genuine stake in understanding, for example:

  • Gaps between what a lab says publicly and what happens internally
  • How safety, security, and deployment decisions are actually made, and by whom
  • Capabilities, incidents, or risks that are known internally but not publicly
  • Governance, oversight, and accountability: boards, policies, commitments, and whether they’re followed
  • Pressures (competitive, financial, political) shaping how work gets done

You don’t need a finished draft. Pitch us with a short description of what you’d like to write.

Help fund this work

Outside the Singularity is funded only by current and former lab employees, in their personal capacities. If you’d like to contribute, email us. We don’t accept money from organizations, and contributing gives you no say over what we publish.

Contacting us safely

  • Think about your legal position first. You may have confidentiality obligations, and you may also have legal protections, including whistleblower protections. We encourage you to speak with your own lawyer before writing for us.
  • Use a personal device on a personal network. Please don’t contact us, or even visit this site, from a work laptop, work phone, work account, or company network or VPN. Employers can often see which sites are visited from their devices and networks. This protects you, and it matters to us too: we don’t want to receive anything through an employer’s systems.
  • You can stay anonymous to the public, but not to us. A separate email address not linked to your name is fine for first contact. Before we publish your writing, we’ll need to confirm privately who you are and where you worked. We’ll agree with you on how to do that, and we’ll keep it confidential.
  • Never send us internal documents. We don’t accept internal or confidential materials of any kind: no documents, screenshots, code, data, or recordings from any lab. If you send them, we will delete them unread. Tell us what you know in your own words.

What you can expect from us

  • Your identity is protected. If you write anonymously, we will not identify you, directly or indirectly, without your consent.
  • It’s your piece. We’ll work with you on edits, and nothing is published without your approval of the final text.
  • We decide what we publish. We may decline, delay, or withdraw any piece, at any stage, and we can’t always say why.
  • Every article is legally reviewed before publication, and we carry media liability insurance.
  • We respect confidentiality agreements. We respect the constraints of our own confidentiality agreements, and we won’t ask you to violate yours.
  • We’re independent. We have no funding from labs, investors, advertisers, or institutions; only from individuals who have been where you are.
